As invited speaker at the 43rd Foundry Colloquium, held by the Institute of Foundry, Aachen / Germany, Dr, Hans Wobbe will be holding a lecture on “Combination technologies metal / plastics based on injection molding process”.
Driven by the global trends of increasing mobility, declining resources as well as the climate change, the subject of the lightweight construction has emerged as a top topic. One way to develop lightweight design leads from the multi-material systems of combination between metal and plastics. Based on the injection molding process for plastics – suitable for mass-production – the lecture shows the current combination technologies where metals are injected as finished part using the primary shaping method, the forming or by inserting.
Togehter with a description of major developments and possible applications, the diverse potential of this combination technology for the future can be illustrated.
